Ogunlano is a Nigerian - American musical duo consisting of husband and wife, master percussionist and Yoruba King, Oba Tayese Ogunlano & powerhouse vocalist Yeye Tayese Ogunlano. Born in Miami, FL and Chicago, IL respectively, the duo sings in English and Yoruba - the traditional tonal language of the Nigerian people, which has the largest number of native speakers.
In the Yoruba language, Ogunlano translates as 'the warrior clears the path'.
Commissioned by the late Oba (King) Efuntola Oseijeman Adefunmi I, of Oyotunji African Village in Beaufort, SC (the only African village recognized by the US as sovereign to the US), with bringing the beauty of Nigerian- American culture to the world through entertainment, Ogunlano does just that with an ecclectic sound coined 'Orisa Beat'. Much of Ogunlano's mission is to preserve African culture and traditions that inspire future generations of performing artists within the fields of African visual, recording and performing arts.
‘Orisa Beat’ are elements of traditional Yoruba drumming fused with afro-beat, jazz, blues, house, hip-hop...
‘Orisa beat is music for your spirit’, says the Oba Ogunlano.
'its OGUNLANO' will be released independently on Ogbe Records, and will be digitally available worldwide summer 2019.
